Bio
Nancy White Cassidy is an American acrylic and mixed media artist who creates highly textured substrates using layered or cradled panels, molding paste, metal leaf, collage, paint, and other objects and mediums. She holds a Master in Fine Arts from Western Connecticut State University. In addition to being a private tutor for the late comedian Joan Rivers for several years, whose Connecticut home was only a few miles away from Cassidy's, she taught art throughout New England and in New York City.
Through her work, she combines a visual narrative with contemporary abstract and textural elements, which is a fusion of her previous work as a children’s educational illustrator, and her current work in fine art.
During a difficult period decades ago, Cassidy was introduced to astrology, which helped her make sense of her life and experiences. This, her deep spiritual beliefs. and vivid past life memories have continued to have a significant influence on her work. Using these insights, Cassidy aims to utilize her art to convey her concern for the different problems that our planet is currently facing, especially in relation to the erosion of women’s rights, as well as to inspire hope and light in her audience and strengthen their sense of duty to one another and the environment.
The motifs featured in Cassidy's paintings are directly influenced by the materials of her childhood, and her present work is an homage to her mother and aunts, whose knowledge of fabrics, design, and sewing abilities was a testament to their resourcefulness during hard times.
Cassidy lives in Brunswick, Maine with her husband and her two cats.
